Developing the Library to Increase Interest in Reading
A variety of library services developed by SDN 2 Rajamandalakulon have increased students' interest in reading. Students can be seen looking for books in the library catalog computers and using a reading corner.
West Bandung, West Java – The library of SDN 2 Rajamandalakulon uses an open lending system.  Every library user can choose library materials displayed on the shelves.  With an open lending system, the students have freedom to choose the library materials they want to use.
To make things even better, the library also provides a special visual information service.  The management of the library has changed from its previous manual system to the current automated system, which uses the Meranti Version of the Senayan Library Management System software.
With this automated system, the librarian can easily find out who often visit the library.  Every year awards are given to students who most frequently visit the library.  These awards boost the students' motivation to visit the library.
SAID Robot
To add interest for visitors, the library is equipped with an intelligent and smart robot.  The robot welcomes each visitor.  It is named SAID, which is derived from the words USA-Indonesia.  The SAID robot is clever in holding dialogs with library visitors.  This robot was assembled by the students of SDN 2 Rajamandalakulon.
The assembly of this intelligent and smart robot turns out to be very simple.  It was assembled from used materials, including:
1. 6 used drink cans
2. 2 used plastic drinks bottles
3. Used spoons and forks from instant noodle packages
4. 1 candlestick
5. 1 toy car
6. 1 Bluetooth speaker.
The SAID robot can be controlled using a remote control, computer, iPad, or mobile phone using a Bluetooth signal.
Providing Services to Users
Various library services are available to attract the users to visit and use the library. These include services for finding references, audiovisual, books and magazines, reading corners, story telling, a mobile library, internet and computers.
1. Finding references
This service is provided for library users who are seeking reference materials.  The service is often used by teachers, who are seeking materials to support teaching and learning in class.  The audiovisual service is provided to support interactive teaching and learning and for recreation. It includes interactive CDs and films that support teaching and learning
2. Books and Materials
This is the main service provided the library.  Library users can borrow reading materials to take home.  Fines are imposed for the late return of library materials.  The data of library users is already integrated in the computer database.  When there are delays in returning books, the computer automatically gives warnings and calculates the amounts of the fine.
3. Reading Corners
This service is provided to cater for the large number of visitors to the library, which is too small to meet the needs of 750 students.  Outside the library that only measures 56 m2, reading corners are provided at strategic places around the school.  The students appear comfortable reading in the library as well as in the reading corners, according to their own preference. Additionally reading corners are provided in each classroom.
4. Story Telling
The story telling service can shape children's characters in a good way.  Interesting stories develop positive characteristics in the students.  In addition to the librarian and teachers, quite a lot of the students like to learn how to tell stories in front of their friends.
5. Mobile Library Service
A mobile library service is provided in cooperation between the school library and the West Java Provincial and West Bandung District Library Services (Bapusipda).
Whenever the mobile library comes, the students are enthusiastic to read its books.  The West Java Bapusipda helps by making an addition to the library collection in the form of 300 books that can be exchanged whenever the library users get tired of their current collection.
